After 9/11, like so many of my colleagues, especially in New York, I struggled to find a way to write about what had happened to us in a way that didn’t feel trite, cliché, recycled, generic, boring, earnest, or just something that would be better served by a journalist in an op-ed column. Ultimately (again, like so many of my colleagues), I avoided writing about it altogether for years – until I found the true story that is the inspiration for this play.
