After 9/11, like so many of my colleagues, especially in New York, I struggled to find a way to write about what had happened to us in a way that didn’t feel trite, cliché, recycled, generic, boring, earnest, or just something that would be better served by a journalist in an op-ed column. Ultimately (again, like so many of my colleagues), I avoided writing about it altogether for years – until I found the true story that is the inspiration for this play. It was juicy and surprising and it confused and haunted me: in 1946 (a year after the War and two years before the creation of the state of Israel), a group of Survivors tried to avenge the Holocaust...
