Director of Human Resources

Organizational Summary:
Playwrights Horizons is an off-Broadway writer's theater dedicated to the support and development of contemporary U.S. playwrights, composers and lyricists, and to the production of their new work.

Position Summary:             
The Director of Human Resources is a full time, exempt position responsible for the day-to-day human resources related activities of the organization, including, but not limited to: recruitment and orientation; benefits and compensation; and reporting. A collaborative spirit, excellent communication skills, positive attitude, kindness, self-motivation, and an interest in theater are essential. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills, an attention to detail, good record-keeping, and the ability to prioritize workloads in order to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment, with poise, tact and diplomacy. Strong commitment to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility practices in all aspects of HR and management philosophy.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, direct, develop, and coordinate policies, activities, and staffing to support the organization’s mission and culture
  • Ensure compliance with local, State, and Federal regulations 
  • Administer employee benefits program, including regular analysis to maintain pace with evolving job market
  • In concert with Managing Director, create, monitor, and manage personnel budgets for the organization
  • Oversee HRIS systems and files
  • Support institutional leadership and department heads by assessing staffing needs, conducting ongoing analyses, and promoting staff longevity 
  • Lead staff recruitment process
  • Manage annual employee and manager effectiveness evaluations
  • Foster safe, equitable work environment through regular anti-harassment training, and infusing management and hiring practices with principles of anti-racism
  • Oversee onboarding and offboarding of all employees
  • Handle all matters related to employee relations, including mediating disputes and helping staff members overcome professional and personal challenges
  • Develop compensation plans

Committee Responsibilities:

  • Leads Cultural Wellness Committee, an employee-run internal committee that recommends standards and practices for a healthy work environment
  • Member of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Working Group

Minimum Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum five years’ progressive human resources experience
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience withHRIS software, accounting software 

Compensation:

Salary: $75,000
