Upcoming Deadlines

Applications for the 2024/25 season are now closed. Information about future fellowships will be released in early 2025.

Please note that there are two separate application forms for the Artistic/Literary Fellowship and for fellowships in all other departments. If you are applying to multiple fellowships and one of them is Artistic/Literary, you must complete both forms. You may use the same resume and references for both applications if they are relevant for all departments to which you are applying.

How to Apply

As part of the online application form, applicants are required to respond to short answer questions and provide a resume. Applicants for the Artistic Fellowship are asked to respond to four of the six short answer questions in paragraph format; applicants to all other Fellowship are asked to respond to two of the six short answer questions in paragraph or video format. Cover letters are optional, but if you would like to submit one, please include it with your resume as a single file PDF. We also request that applicants provide contact information for two references. If selected to interview, candidates may be asked to provide writing samples or a portfolio.

Some things to keep in mind as you create your short responses:

  • This is an opportunity to tell your story beyond your resume, and share your values. In your responses, you may want to address the following:
    • Why does this fellowship opportunity feel like the best next step for you? Why now?
    • Why Playwrights Horizons?
    • What’s important for us to know about you?

For your resume:

There are no educational prerequisites for participating in this program. We’re looking for candidates who demonstrate a commitment to building a career in the arts and are at a moment in their lives wherein they’re ready to benefit from this kind of immersive experience.

What relevant experiences have you had that have shaped your professional journey to this moment? What are the spaces and relationships that have been formative for you?

The organization is committed to giving equal consideration to applicants  of all races, sexual orientations, gender identities, ages, classes, religions, and abilities. The facilities at Playwrights Horizons are fully accessible and ADA compliant.
