Playwrights Horizons has a strong institutional commitment to diversity and to the principles that promote inclusive practices on our stages and among our staff, Board, and audiences. We are proud to continue this work through the Theatrical Fellowship Program in training the next generation of theater makers. Thanks in part to generous grants from the New York Community Trust’s Van Lier Fund and Tiger Baron Foundation, we are pleased to offer a limited number of $10,000 scholarships to outstanding applicants of color during the 2018-19 Season. Note that these scholarship funds will be awarded in addition to the fellowship stipend and monthly MetroCard. Applicants who are not chosen to receive one of these scholarships may still be offered a fellowship.
To be eligible for consideration you must:
- Identify as a person of color
- Have earned a baccalaureate, or have equivalent professional experience
- Complete a supplemental personal statement in addition to the standard application (details outlined below)
If you are interested in applying for a Multicultural Scholarship, you are invited to respond to the following questions in paragraph form. Please limit your statement to one page.
If offered a fellowship, what financial challenges will you face in committing to a season at Playwrights Horizons? If awarded a scholarship, how will you use it?
You may include a document with your responses along with your cover letter and resume when completing your application. Please direct any additional questions to firstname.lastname@example.org.
