The Retributionists

Mainstage Theater

Written by Daniel Goldfarb
Directed by Leigh Silverman

Spring 1946.  The plan was simple – a German for every Jew.  Its execution would be swift, clean, its impact undeniable.  In this daring, new romantic thriller inspired by actual events, a band of Jewish freedom fighters attempts to avenge a society’s wrongs – if they can keep from tearing each other apart along the way.

Tim Sanford and Daniel Goldfarb

Tim: How did you become a playwright? Daniel: I started writing short stories as soon as I could write, when I was seven or eight years old. I went to the school of the arts in high school, and I was a drama major. And there was a one act play festival of student written, acted, and produced plays, and I wrote a play in eleventh grade, and it got picked, and it was really a life changing moment. I knew immediately that I wasn’t an actor, that I was a writer. So I had three plays produced in a row, and I applied to NYU and came to New York to study playwriting. Then I went to grad school at Juilliard.
