2026/27... and more!
Angels, incels, activists, zealots, leather daddies, competitive aerobics, a lot of butt plugs, a few shifty senators, and one inflatable dinosaur. Coming soon to Playwrights Horizons, beginning this September, is an ambitious and wildly divergent slate of nine new works — each one joyfully original, unexpected, and screaming to be heard.
A 2026/27 Flex Pass or Membership will secure your place for the coming year of six productions, as well as early access to what’s up next.
2026/27 Shows
...and on the horizon
Beyond 2026-27, we’re also committed to a slate of ambitious new works further into the future. Here’s an early look at what's coming up.
NARCISSISTER
Written and performed by Narcissister
Directed by Lucas Hnath
Mother, child, crone, shadow... Downtown provocateur Narcissister contains multitudes. Playwrights Horizons is deep in development for this newly commissioned work that pulls back the mask — or does it? — of this boundary-breaking artist. Interweaving dance, visual art, lo-fi magic, and an original score, Narcissister's newest work is searingly personal, and will find its premiere soon on stage at Playwrights Horizons.
Narcissister's new work is the result of a Peter Shaffer Commission awarded by Playwrights Horizons.
MISS STEP
Book and lyrics by Kit Yan and Melissa Li
Music by Melissa Li
Directed and Co-Choreographed by Connor Gallagher
Co-Choreographed by Jay Jackson
Pam is a crushingly ordinary transwoman who works in a New Jersey toll booth. Being unremarkable is her greatest joy. But when her estranged father dies and she begins to unlock the secrets he left behind, Pam discovers a world she never knew: the world of competitive aerobics, where it’s always 1988. Exuberant and joyfully queer, MISS STEP is the new dance comedy musical you never knew you needed.
[Untitled New Work]
Created by Monica Bill Barnes and Robbie Saenz de Viteri
Dance-theater duo, Monica Bill Barnes and Robbie Saenz de Viteri warmed Playwrights Horizons’ Sharp Theater with Many Happy Returns, their dance memory play, and they revealed a secret life inside the New York Public Library in the acclaimed Lunch Dances. In their continued exploration of what it means to create community, their new piece will plumb the depths of the small, forgettable moments that transpire each minute on a New York City sidewalk. It will never be the same twice, but — with emotional precision and sly, searching writing — this dynamic work will be a new epic, every day.
