Organizational Summary:
Playwrights Horizons is a writer's theater dedicated to the support and development of contemporary U.S. playwrights, composers, and lyricists, and to the production of their new work.

Position Summary:
Playwrights Horizons is seeking Box Office Associates to join our front-line team in providing exceptional customer service to our audience members. The Associate will regularly interact with customers and visitors to the space, and will be comfortable communicating with and providing for their needs. This is a part-time position requiring day, evening, and weekend shifts, and can expect to be offered an average of 10-20 hours per week during the producing season. As a part of this team, the Associate will contribute to the Box Office environment in a manner that is conducive to customer service, equity, and safety.
Duties & Responsibilities:

Assist customers with purchase decisions and resolve customer conflicts with guidance from the Manager of Sales, as needed

Handle performance load-in, walk-up sales, and distribution of Will Call tickets, troubleshooting any day-of-show issues in a professional manner

Process subscriptions and renewals

Complete ticket exchanges and refunds

Check customer records and identification in accordance with current institutional protocols

Maintain knowledge of productions, ticket offerings, and policies

Collect complete and accurate data from customers, ensuring quality data maintenance

Process phone and in-person orders using the Tessitura CRM platform

Maintain a positive attitude, professional demeanor, and a genuine interest in helping others

Contribute to the environment of the box office in a manner that is conducive to customer service, equity, and safety

Perform other duties as assigned by management
Qualifications:

Prior box office experience, preferably in a performing arts or live entertainment setting; other customer service experience a plus

Able to greet new people with confidence and make them feel welcome in the building

Able to remain professional and calm in stressful situations

Outstanding written and verbal communication skills

Ability to confidently engage with patrons, displaying patience and personability

Knowledge of ticketing systems, specifically Tessitura, strongly preferred

F03 Fireguard Certification a plus

Ability to maintain a consistent part-time schedule, covering evening and weekend shifts
Schedule & Work Environment

During the off-season, the Box Office team works on-site 3 days a week, and from home 2 days a week. The Box Office is open Monday-Thursday 2-6 PM.

During the producing season, the Box Office team works on-site at the theatre on 42nd Street. A typical schedule would be Tuesday–Sunday, afternoons and evenings. The team remains at the theatre until the late seating cue for the show passes and all reports have been run (about 30 minutes after show start).

Box Office Associates are paid hourly and are scheduled depending on availability and show schedule. Applicants must be available some nights and weekends.
Compensation:
$20 per hour, with an average of 10-20 hours per week during the production season
