The Playwrights Horizons Theater School (PHTS) has provided thousands of students with intensive theater training through a four-year program that emphasizes professional development and interdisciplinary theater making. The curriculum includes courses in acting, directing, playwriting, design, movement, and voice and speech for nearly 200 students each year.

Director, Playwrights Horizons Theater School

 

Position Summary:

PHTS is seeking temporary administrative support in preparation for the 2026-27 academic year. Alongside the Director, this role will execute key projects regarding enrollment, faculty, and student management.  They will also serve as the first point of contact for communications between students, faculty, staff, and the NYU Department of Drama through the summer.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain the academic calendar, class schedule, student files and schedules, and class rosters

  • Facilitate student enrollment both internally and with NYU 

  • Coordinate first year orientation, First Friday, and student buddy system, as needed through August.

  • Update school resources

  • Collect and organize Faculty attendance.

  • Coordinate the fulfillment of classroom requests regarding set up, equipment needs, and classroom supplies with other administrative staff. 

  • Support Faculty use of Blackbaud

  • Provide general administrative support to Faculty, staff, and students

 

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong administrative experience, highly organized with a keen attention to detail 

  • Passion for working with students in an educational environment 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong Google Workspace skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills particularly with young people

  • Experience in Blackbaud or other SIS preferred

  • Experience working for a non-profit and/or educational institution preferred

 

Compensation: 

$27 per hour for 30 hours per week
