Playwrights Horizons Theater School
at Playwrights Downtown
Playwrights Horizons Theater School, under the auspices of NYU Tisch School of the Arts, offers an innovative four-year multi-disciplinary training program that is consistently ranked as one of the best undergraduate theater training programs in the country.
As the only undergraduate studio to integrate acting, directing, design, playwriting, and devising, the program fosters collaboration, cross-disciplinary exploration, and the development of each student as a whole artist.
Guided by a diverse faculty of working professionals, students engage with both Western traditions and global performance practices. Training evolves from foundational classwork to student-driven projects, encouraging artistic risk-taking and authentic expression.
Through hands-on collaboration with peers, alumni, and mentors, students graduate with the tools, flexibility, and vision to forge their own path as artists and citizens.
Known for bold, original work and fearless creativity, Playwrights Horizons Theater School trains the next generation of curious, adventurous, and collaborative theater makers. Graduates leave with a strong artistic voice, a wide professional network, and the confidence to take creative risks.
The renovation of the Playwrights Downtown third floor studios was made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
