Playwrights Horizons is home. No matter where we go or what other theaters we visit, we always know our true North. And having the opportunity to visit our seats when we see a Playwrights show makes it that much more special. Plus, we want to share in some small way how special this place is to us for those who sit in these seats when we cannot be there.

Your Seat: Where memories begin.

Nights out with friends. Unforgettable evenings with family. First (or maybe fourth) dates. Eye-opening exchanges with artists. Leaping up for a roaring standing ovation. Recognizing a long-time friend across the lobby. Post-show chats that last the whole ride home.

Your memories are a part of the fabric of Playwrights Horizons. Whether it’s named for yourself or a loved one, your seat supports Playwrights as we continue to share the stories of today by the writers of tomorrow.

I was doing a talk-back after a preview performance of I Am My Own Wife, and I noticed two handsome gay men in the audience, presumably on a date. The shyer of the two wanted to ask a question, but clearly didn't want to speak up. He whispered to his date, who posed the query instead. I guess the shy fellow was amused by my answer. A few days later, I heard through a very dear mutual friend that his date hadn't blossomed into romance, and he was interested in meeting me for a drink. That was seventeen years ago; we've been together ever since.

—Doug Wright, Playwright (I Am My Own Wife, Grey Gardens), Seat D7

Playwrights is one of the seminal performing arts organizations in New York City, and its mission of focusing on new work is both unique and exciting. This is a smart, energizing and fun place to be around! It’s hard to think of anywhere else we’d rather have our names.
