"What to Send Up..." FAQ

What is the run time? Is there late seating.

The show runs approximately two hours, no intermission. There is no late seating and once the show has started there is reentry is not permitted.

Are there rush tickets available? What happens if a performance is sold out?

In the event that a performance is sold out online, a limited number of rush tickets will be made available to Black-identifying audience members. These tickets will be available on a first come, first served basis for $25, via a promo code. Sign up for this list here. For those with technology accessibility issues, these tickets may be purchased over the phone, pending availability.

What can I expect regarding the “participatory” nature of this show?

What to Send Up When It Goes Down invites every audience member to engage with the piece in a variety of ways, but it’s up to you to choose how much or how little you participate. The creators of the play intended for the overall experience to be both Covid-safe and one where the traditional boundary between audience and performer is upended. The degree to which you participate is entirely up to you, but we ask audiences to join in a spirit of openness.

What is your health and safety protocol?

In line with City and CDC guidance, all audience members are required to show proof of vaccination and wear a face covering throughout their time at Playwrights Horizons. This is also required of all Playwrights staff. For our full policy, visit phnyc.org/health

What is seating like for this production?

Due to the unique nature of the show, seating is general admission, and available at a limited capacity. This means you won’t select a seating location during the ticket purchase process. Accessible seating is available for this production, both online and by calling our box office at 212 279 4200.

What time should I arrive?

We ask that audience members arrive 30 minutes prior to the start time printed on your ticket to best enjoy the lobby installation. This will also allow proper time to have your proof of vaccination checked by our staff. Please note: there is absolutely no late seating for this production.

Will there be a place to store my belongings during the performance?

We do not have a coat or bag check at Playwrights Horizons. As such, we suggest that you limit the amount of items you bring with you to this production. The participatory nature of the show requires audience members to keep their belongings with them throughout the performance, so anything you bring with you will have to be something you are comfortable carrying.

I am not feeling well. What should I do with my ticket?

To best protect our artists, audiences, and staff, we ask that anyone who has tested positive for or is demonstrating symptoms of Covid-19 to remain home. Please reach out to tickets@phnyc.org or 212 279 4200 to exchange your tickets for a different performance (pending availability), donate the value of your ticket to Playwrights, or receive a refund. Please note that refunds are only available for those who have had known exposure to, or have tested positive for, Covid-19.
